There is a short week ahead of us, folks. Here is the plan:
Science - We're in the midst of exploring Newton's 3rd Law. Evidence for this law is everywhere, if you know what to look for. We'll have a few more in-class examples (and a brief video) this week. Heading into next week, I'd like you to prepare a very brief show-and-tell of the 3rd Law in action. More on this as the week rolls out.
Math - We continue our two-headed look at geometric shapes and the algebraic expressions that can describe them. Quick: can you explain to an adult why the area of a triangle is half that of a rectangle with the same base and height?
Language Arts - This is it! You should be winding up your independent novel study. You get a bit more time for Week 5 responses: these are due next Tuesday. All Choice Tasks are due next Friday. Make the most of your time this week, folks.
Writing - Please complete your Compare and Contrast piece as soon as possible. We've spent a good few weeks looking at sentence fluency, and I'd like to move on to an exploration of writer's "voice" - the fifth writing trait we'll look at this year. Voice is all about the distinctiveness of your writing - its your style, your rhythm, and your expressiveness. You know how, sometimes, you pick up a book and, even if you don't know the author, you might recognize the writing as belonging to a particular author? (Rick Riordan's voice is a great example. So too for Lemony Snicket, J.K. Rowling, and great local writer, Polly Horvath). I'll show you a few tricks that help you recognize what makes "you" as an author... Let's find your Voice!
Don't forget that Thursday is District Transition Day. Grade 5's from our feeder schools will join us for the afternoon. Be a thoughtful, understanding, not-too-cool-for-school host, okay?
Also, no school on Friday.
That's all for this week, folks! Enjoy!
