The Boundless

By Kenneth Oppel
332 pages

Will Everett, the shy artistic son of a Canadian railway manager, is aboard the greatest train ever built as it travels its maiden voyage from Halifax to Victoria. Along the way Will encounters an incredible list of characters and creatures including members of every class of society, circus magicians and performers, a giant, an elephant, and a live Sasquatch. Also on board are criminals bent on stealing treasures from the funeral car of Cornelius Van Horne, the real-life builder of the Canadian Pacific Railway. Elements of Canada's true past mix with fantasy and adventure as Will teams up with the circus performers in a bid to keep the thieves from their goals.

I loved the fast pace of the action and the colourful characters in this book. The references to a time of great nation-building in Canadian history mixed nicely with a glorious adventure. The circus performers were vividly portrayed, and reminded me of the best of Cirque de Soleil. The Boundless is a fun piece of historical fiction. Read this book if you love action, adventure and mystery.

The Hardy Boys: The Disappearing Floor

By Franklin W. Dixon

Frank and Joe are on a mystery crime investigation and it will be a ghostly adventure.  The story takes place in 1964 in Bayport. Frank and Joe, two  brothers, are struggling to solve a crime mystery about a disappearing floor and a jewel heist.  Frank and Joe are two curious brothers, they like to solve mysteries and they want to be like their dad.

My personal connection is I like to collect rocks and gold myself.  The jewel  heist in this book is very exciting.  The genre of the story is mystery, crime and fantasy. The book is worth reading if you like ghost stories and I like how it had lots of cliffhangers.

Operation Do-Over

By Gordon Korman

284 pages

Mason and Ty were once best friends until Ava Petrakis showed up one morning from New York. Both boys immediately get crushes on Ava. Mason and Ava end up becoming close friends. Ty sees a picture of Ava and Mason hugging on the seventh grade chat and gets angry. Then Ty ends the friendship between him and Mason. One day Mason wakes up from a terrible accident and has the chance to have a “do-over” and change some events to have a different future.

This book's genre is fiction. The storyline was interesting but it didn't draw me in like other books, such as “The Unteachables.” The characters were described well, and for me the visualizations were good. I recommend this book for people who like action and everyday life.

Haunted Canada

By Pat Hancock

322 pages

This story takes place in Hanover, Ontario. Mary Isabella Rutherford was a kind, loving woman who always put others before herself. But even being her kind natured self, people were not that kind to Mary. Long after her friends had married and settled down to a happy life raising a family, she finally met the man of her dreams. Thrilled, she planned her wedding. But when the big day arrived, she was left standing alone before the preacher. Her bridegroom had skipped town the night before. Overcome by shame and heartbreak, still wearing her wedding dress, Mary hanged herself.

I loved the spooky feeling this book gave to me. It really takes you on an adventure. It was very interesting to know and really feel what the characters are going through. Haunted Canada is a book of fictional horror. You will like this book if you're craving something a little on the spooky side.

 Love That Dog

Sharon Creech

86 pages

The boy's name is Jace. He is not very energetic but more calm. The only three places he has said that he has been in is school, the pound and the car. He is shy in my opinion but he is not mean he doesn't stick up for people, but he minds his own business. He is worried people will make fun of him because he thinks only girls do poetry so he is worried people will make fun of him if they see him doing poetry.

It is not the best book of all time. But if you like books that tell their past but not adventure  past’s this might be for you. He also wants to meet Mr. Walter Dean Myers is a person who writes poetry. I like this book because I enjoy poetry. I think you should read this book because you could learn some poems and he tells you his opinions in life. It's also a calming book. The genre of this story is poetry.

Judy Moody Saves the World!

By Megan McDonald

144 pages

Judy Moody is the main character in the story. She is known for being moody and is trying to save the rain forest. Judy’s annoying little brother Stink is also a main character and disagrees with Judy. The story takes place in Judy’s backyard, her house, and her school. The story begins when Judy and Stink enter a contest to design a band aid called a crazy strip. Stink won the crazy strip contest. When Judy lost the crazy strip contest, she became obsessed with saving the rain forest after learning the rainforest was dying in science class. She was throwing away everything that came from the rain forest. At the end of the story, Judy and her class did an activity to help save the rain forest.

I can connect to this book because sometimes I get moody just like Judy. This is a good book because this book is realistic fiction for my age. I would recommend reading this book because it is funny, and it reminds me of having siblings.

The Hobbit

J.R.R Tolkien

351 Pages

The Hobbit is a fantasy book about hobbits, dwarves, and wizards. The “hobbit” is Bilbo Baggins from the Shire. He goes on an adventure with 13 dwarves and Gandalf, a wizard. They journeyed to kill Smaug the dragon who stole the dwarves' home and treasure. They needed Gandalf because wizards are powerful, and they had to have Bilbo because hobbits are good burglars. Along the way they battle huge mountain trolls, wargs - a race of vicious wolves, and scarred goblins. Some beings that help them on their quest are Elrond - a wise elf, Beorn - a human that shapeshifts into animals, and the Eagle Lord.

As the book goes on, Bilbo gets braver. At the start he is scared of everything except the Shire because he thinks adventures are terrifying. Here’s an example: in the warg clearing, Bilbo tries to get as far away as he can without trying to help. At the end, he will bravely go into a dragon's lair on his own accord.

I loved this book because of how complicated it is and how Bilbo changes over a long period of time. I also like it because something similar happened to me. I moved to Victoria and I really didn’t want to. I had good teachers and friends in Portland but after the move it started to get good and now my life is better because I have better teachers and friends. Bilbo went on a journey and had a better life after it, and that pretty much happened to me.

11 Birthdays

By Wendy Mass

267 pages

We’ve all had those days that we just want to be over, but for Amanda Ellerby of Willow Falls, it’s even worse. It’s the day of her and her ex-best friend Leo FitzPatrick’s shared birthday, and also the one year anniversary of the fight that ended their friendship. It’s a bad day for Amanda, and when she goes to bed, she’s happy for the day to be over. But when she wakes up, it’s her birthday again. To get out of the time loop Amanda and Leo must learn the history of their town and trace back their roots. Will they ever find their way out of their birthday?

This is a wonderful fantasy novel complete with friendship, drama, and just a generally great plot. I would definitely recommend this book to just about anyone. One thing I connected to was having a joint birthday. I know someone with the same birthday as me, and every year I worry that we will have our parties on the same day, because we share some friends that we always invite to our birthday parties.

The One And Only Bob

By Katherine Applegate

334 pages

Bob, who used to be a stray dog, and his two best friends Ruby the elephant and Ivan the gorilla go on a spectacular adventure that will guide them through the city and where they learn to work together. Sadly during a tornado Bob loses his owner and he has to face his fears and find her. Along the way Bob has to overcome many obstacles including rescuing different animals and keeping his friends safe from danger. Bob encounters someone from his past and learns to never leave their side again.

This book reminds me of the movie the Lion King because he too was super brave and had to find his way home. This fictional book is worth reading because if you like animals and adventure then this is the book for you. I find this book pulls you right into it and I loved how it made me happy, sad and excited at different moments in the story.

The Accidental Apprentice

By Amanda Foddy

Barclay Throne is a simple mushroom farmer in Dullshire until he breaks the town's biggest rule. Never ever go in the woods. There he meets a Powerful Beast, a wolf-like hound called a lufthound, which can teleport and summon high winds. Barklay accidentally gets attached, which means the beast becomes a tattoo and can be summoned whenever he wants. Barclay wants to go back to his town. However, his town won't accept him because of his beast. He has to study this new world and ace a huge test to remove his beast and go back to Dullshire. Along the way he meets a new friend named Viola, who has a beast of her own, a baby dragon.

I loved this tale because JUST when you think it's going to end… BAM! They have to do something else, find something else… it just has so many twists and turns. Adventure on every page! A connection I made while reading this story is that Barclay’s lufthound (his beast) seems a lot like our dog with tangled black fur.

The Ice House

By Monica Sherwood

344 pages

Louisa is the main character in this story. She is easily annoyed with her brother, Will. She has a warm heart and a soft spot for creating/making structures. They are in a global freeze and stuck in their apartment building and backyard. Louisa struggles to keep a tight relationship with her friends Priya and Nellie, but enjoys spending time with her friend and neighbor Luke.

Together they make an ice house in the backyard using only snow and ice that they use to calm down or they imagine magic skits of the bright and happy future. Luke’s father Brian had a terrible accident in the snow and lost his memory while Louisa’s mom had been in grief over her mother’s death. This book gave me so many connections but the one that stood out the most is that they have to stay inside as we did we during COVID-19.

The Book Of Three

186 pages

By Lloyd Alexander

The story takes place in Prydain, with Taran, a young assistant pig keeper during the time of knights and royalty. Taran goes on a daring adventure where he meets three people,  a gopher wood troll creature, a bard and a young princess. He also encounters many foes during the adventure, like the dark king and his giant army of the undead - sneakily moving through forests. Other problems are happening at the same time while they are traveling. The question is - Will Taran and his colleagues make it out alive?

Personally I thought this was a very good read, it has a mix of fantasy, fiction and action while still containing some comedy. When I read books I always think that, “Oh, this is like every other book that I've read.” But this book did just the opposite of that. I feel like it's a book for lots of people who like adventure, action and a bit of comedy. It reminded me of a lot of Disney movies which it is based off of.

New Moon

Stephenie Meyer

563 pages

The book New Moon is a story set in Forks, Washington and it is a dark romance between a vampire, Edward Cullen and a mortal, named Bella Swan. With a best friend that's a werewolf. Bella is used to being around monsters, the good ones and the bad ones. She's just  not your average teenage girl. Though it may seem that she has a tough exterior, she is actually a petite, meek girl. New Moon is the second book in the Twilight saga. The story starts on Bella's eighteenth birthday where tragic events lead to Edward deciding he isn't good for her. After all, it doesn’t make sense for a vampire and a human to be together. Edward and his family choose to leave Forks so Bella can have a chance at a safe and happy life without any interference from him. Edward asks Bella to promise him something before he leaves- to not do anything stupid or reckless. But Bella is a magnet for danger and thinks maybe if she does do something reckless Edward will come back to save her. Motorcycles, wolves, deadly vampires, depression, cliff diving: who wouldn’t want that?

I was interested in this book because I really enjoyed Twilight and want to read the whole saga. I related to the main character Bella, when she felt alone after Edward left and her and her best friend Jacob weren’t talking. I could relate to feeling lonely when I moved to Victoria and started at a new school. Overall New Moon was a pretty good book.

I Survived: The Battle of D-Day, 1944

By Lauren Tarshis

144 pages

Paul is a 11 year old kid that is nervous about WW2. Paul found a strange guy named Victor, an Allied soldier with his arms tied around a tree branch. Once Paul got to know Victor, it turned out he was hiding from the Nazis. The huge battle was in WW2, France, 1944, at Normandy beach. Paul is struggling to stay away from the Nazis, just like Victor. Paul is waiting very patiently for D-Day to end, which feels like months. Paul was trying to give his mom her favorite cookies at a bakery.

This book reminds me of my great grandad in WW2, and my regular grandad’s brothers that fought in D-Day. This book makes me think of a movie I watched with my dad last year called Dunkirk, which was a place they fought at in WW2. I think this book is worth reading because it teaches you about history, practice for reading no picture books, and it tells you what happened before you were born.

Pages 117

The main characters are Dirt, Sugar, Sweetie and  Poppy. The setting is in the backyard on a Saturday. Sugar is very smart and the leader. He is bossy and  reactive. The antagonists are squirrels. They dig a hole for shelter. They think they found a T-rex bone. The chipmunks try to sneak into the shelter to steal it.

In this adventure comedy story they dig holes. I like digging holes because I want to simulate sinkholes. This book is worth reading because it's a good  story line with a lot of adventure. The characters are each special in their own way.

I Survived: Children's Blizzard 1888

By Lauren Tarshis

108 pages

The characters are Jon, his sister Franny, his mom and dad, Rex, Sven, and  (Im gonna make this name up because I forget the real name) Joe. It all starts in a dumpy old house on a farm field.  Jon and his family moved to a place called Dakota, Jon and his family are living a great life on their farm until one day a fierce winter and it was so bad that they could not go to school. So after a few months it became sunny again so everyone could go to school! Then while everyone was outside a blizzard hit the school and everyone had to go in the school but Jon was still outside.

So I've had something similar happen to me but only in my dream, I was playing in my backyard it was cloudy but I still played out there, then it started snowing and it turned into a blizzard but I for some reason chose to stay out there and then it was to much for me so I went inside and saw my dad standing in front of me and asked if I was warm another? WHO ASKS THAT AFTER A BLIZZARD I WAS FREEZING OBVIOUSLY! I like this book because it starts off with a normal part and when you at least expect it BOOM it turns into a game for survival.

They need to get it done fast because their boss Mr. Big Nose is strict. They need to make books because that is their job and if they didn't have that job they would not have a 13 story treehouse. Will they get it done?

The 39 Story Treehouse

Andy Griffiths

344 pages

Andy is very funny and  Terry loves inventing. He just made the 39 level of the treehouse. Jill has over 45 pets like rabbits, cats, dogs etc. Terry and Andy have a 39 story treehouse the 39th story is a book maker machine and they asked it to make a book. It said it would take about 8 hours. They went on their amusement park and trampoline park for about 6 hours and they wanted to finish off the book. The book machine heard that and locked the doors to the treehouse and when they tried to go in the treehouse the book machine started to slap them. So they ran to Jill's house and stayed the night. The next morning Terry was thinking they could ask professor Stupido if he could uninvent the book machine. They flew to the moon and asked him to uninvent the book machine and he did but he uninvent the whole universe.

My personal connection is I’ve been in a tree house. I could imagine living in one. The book is worth reading because it is very funny. It has a nice mix of half pictures, half words and it tells you about the stories of the treehouse. It is part of a series of books. The next book is The 52 story. The genre of the story is comedy fiction.

20,000 Leagues Under the Sea

Jules Verne

287 pages

Monsieur Arronax, Ned Land and Conseil set sail to capture the mysterious ocean beast disturbing the world's waters. In an effort to capture the beast, they find themselves prisoners on the submarine boat, the Nautlius, built by an ingenious man named Captain Nemo. This spectacular adventure takes  place between the years 1866-1867  in the submarine waters of the world.  Monsieur Arronax is an Assistant Professor in the Paris Museum of Natural History. He discovers a new part of him that loves the submarine world and is torn between staying or leaving back to land.  Monsieur Arronax has to choose between his friend Ned Land, who hopes to escape to land, and the most  knowledgeable Captain Nemo who’s hopes are set at the bottom of the sea. Should he choose freedom, or the pursuit of knowledge while in captivity. While prisoners on this submarine boat, they encountered many new experiences from  discovering Atlantis to being stuck in an  iceberg and almost suffocating. Throughout  these adventures, these three men remain  prisoners of Captain Nemo on their submarine tour around the world. Will they escape to safety or will stay below the  surface forever?

I read this book because the book “Daughter of the Deep” mentions it a lot and I thought it would be an interesting read. In Daughter of the Deep, the main character finds the Nautilus 150 years later.  I think you would enjoy this book if you enjoy science fiction and technology. However it is a hard read  because it has lots of old English and scientific words. I think the characters were really well written but the storyline was a bit confusing and didn’t give a proper ending. The genre of the story is science fiction.

One Christmas I lost a Boba Fett Lego mini figure that was really special because we got it in Disneyland and it was rare. It showed up in the Christmas tree 2 years later.  This mystery book was really interesting it kept me on the edge of my seat wondering what happens next. Alicia Alonso Takes the Stage

By Rebel Girls

119 pages

Alicia Alonso takes the stage in a heartfelt story about a little girl who wants to dance more than anything in the world. Living in a small town made it hard for Alicia to start her career. But when she finally did, she started to see spots. She lay in her bed for a year, moving to the beat of the music with her fingertips swaying and swerving - but never actually moving. Seeing is no problem for most people, but for a dancer it may feel like the end of the world.

This book is recommended for ages 6 and up. This book reminds me of a little girl who loves to dance. That little girl is me. I loved reading this book and it kept me on my toes. It pulled all my heart strings. I loved how the book ended and how it began. I can’t wait for you to read this book.

A dolphin flipped him out of the water allowing the girls to get a full view of my private parts. After we got out and toweled off, we went to the front gate to see Li Ping but when the truck came to the loading dock the panda wasn't in the back, the doctor and Li Ping had vanished. The doors had been blown off by C4 explosives but everything else was in its place. Later on Teddy discovered Walter Ogilvy, J.J. 's rival, Swapped the truck.

Panda-monium, a Stuart Gibbs book, is a bestseller and a fantastic book. I have also read the previous books in the series. It is eight books long and Panda-monium is the fourth book in the series. I enjoyed this book because it invoked a lot of amazing emotions like joy, excitement and happiness, and it has well-developed characters in it. Teddy and I are both curious. We are trying to find ways to help solve problems and I go to the zoo a lot. If you like mystery, excitement and adventure, you should read this book.

Ollie & Moon: ALOHA!

By: Diane Kredensor

Ollie and Moon are cats. They are funny. Sometimes they are annoying. They are best friends. They like to play games. Ollie makes up games. The setting is in Hawaii. The characters are Ollie and Moon. And the story is great!

My favorite part of the story is when Ollie made up a game called “Peanut butter-talk”. I liked that Ollie helped Moon conquer her fear of the ocean.

I Survived The Attacks Of September 11, 2001

By Lauren Tarshis

96 Pages

The main character's name in this book is Lucas. He is 11 years old and lives in Port Jackson, New York.  Lucas is a normal 11 year old boy who loves football.  Sometimes he is a little clumsy, but when an emergency happens, he shows bravery, helpfulness and determination.  In this story, the main struggle for Lucas is surviving a disaster.  After getting bad news from his doctor, Lucas travels to New York city to visit his uncle, who is a firefighter. While he is in the city, he gets caught in the middle of the September 11th attacks. He must find his father and help whoever he can, while trying to survive the disaster.

This story reminded me of the first Avengers movie, where there was an attack on New York city and buildings were crumbling. The genre of this book is historical fiction and also action. I enjoyed that the main character has the same name and age as me. I also enjoyed learning more about  the September 11th attacks and what it was like for the people who were near the twin towers. If you like the other “I Survived” books, I think you would like this one a lot. If you find stories about terrorist attacks upsetting, I would recommend not to read this book.

Not only that but she has to disguise herself as a dog. In this wild mystery Byx will encounter life or death battles, moving islands, and so much more.

I like this Fantasy adventure book a lot. It made me think of the Unwanteds book 5 by: Lisa McMann. In that book the main characters are rejected people traveling around the world never ceasing to face life or death battles. The same thing happens in Endling. Endling, Book Two is a 4 out of 5 star success

Holes

By Louis Sachar

233 pages

This amazing mystery story is about a 14 year old boy named Stanley Yelnats Who unfortunately was brought to camp green lake because of his no-good-dirty-rotten-pig-stealing great-great grandfather but not only because of that also because of himself, he stole a pair of shoes from Clyde Livingston.  At camp everybody  has to wear a long sleeve orange jumpsuit,an orange t-shirt, and yellow socks. They have to dig holes that are five feet deep and five feet across. They get breakfast at 4:30 in the morning and have to work all day.

My connection to the story is that I have gone to a lake with no water. I recommend this book to people who like mystery.

A Series of Unfortunate Events: The Bad Beginning

Lemony  Snicket

162 pages

Violet, Klaus and Sunny Baudelaire were intelligent children but also very unfortunate. This sad story takes place in a small town where mostly everyone is kind. After the terrible death of their parents Violet, Klaus and Sunny had to go live with a very distant relative of theirs, a horrible man named Count Olaf! The three kids must face many challenges including making dinner for Count Olaf and his gang, chopping wood (for fun) and attending a play that Count Olaf himself wrote. Will the Baudelaire children get away from this man’s evil plans or not?...

Just like the Baudelaires, I love building things and reading all types of books. This book is great for 8-13 year old readers. It has a big vocabulary and is a perfect “quick read” for novel studies. I enjoyed this book very much! This mystery Novel is perfect for me!

Land of Stories: Author’s Observatory

By Chris Colfer

Conner and Alex are two 15 year old twins who live in a fairytale World. When the fairytale world got to war Conner   thought of bringing Alex along to his short stories to make an army using the portal potion. On their journey They encounter Witches, fairies, masked men and more. All of this forces Alex and Conner to go to “the other world” however it is hard to stay hidden. The book club does have a sneaking suspicion about the fairytale world. This is an adventurous novel that keeps you reading no matter what. When I read Land of Stories I am reminded of The Unwanteds.

The Lion the Witch and the Wardrobe

By C.S. Lewis

189 pages

This book is about Peter, Edmund, Susan, and Lucy, four adventuresome children sent to the house of an old scientist where they discover the entrance to Narnia, a magical winter world.  They befriend talking animals and other strange creatures.   They quickly learn that the cruel, power hungry White Witch is trying to freeze everybody and take over the kingdom. The children fight alongside Aslan, the rightful king of Narnia to free Edmund, who is tricked by the White Witch and captured.

This action-filled fantasy shows the importance of choosing good friends and telling the truth.  In this book I especially admire Lucy because even if she is the youngest, she understands a lot about people's hearts and is loyal, truthful and kind. If you like imaginary worlds and magical creatures, you should read this book.

Annemarie is a  strong, brave and kind 10 year old girl that lives in a small town in Denmark. The story takes place in 1943 when the Nazis had invaded Denmark.

Annemarie is risking her life to help her best friend Ellen and her family not get captured by the Nazis. The Nazis are looking for all the Jewish people all over Denmark. Ellen's family needs to run away and hide because they are Jewish people.

I really recommend you to read this book because it teaches you that war is a horrible thing and that life isn't always fair.  You will also learn about the second World War and how many Jewish people had to running away from their homes and leaving everything behind.

This book is worth reading, it's an historical fiction novel. One lesson that I learned is there's always kind people all over the world that risked their lives to help the Jewish people. This book has so many cliffhangers you can't stop reading it. It had lots of action, scary and dangerous moments throughout the story, that's what made me keep on reading!

The main character in this book is a boy named Fletcher.  A mysterious man in the marketplace gives him a book and Fletcher learns that he can summon demons, which is a rare skill. The mysterious man's name is Rotter, and he becomes one of the main characters.  Fletcher accidentally summons a fire type demon classified as a Salamander which he names Ignatius.  Something about the demon puts him on the path of an adventure. The antagonist of this book is the Orc empire, a savage clan of bloodthirsty monsters that are trying to take over the world. Fletcher joins Vocans Academy, a prestigious school for demon summoners.

Fletcher meets some friends along the way including an elf, and a grumpy dwarf. The non-human creatures in this book such as elves and dwarfs are treated very poorly by the humans and they have to go up against racism and criticism. This book was set in the middle ages and this is a very good book for people who like fantasy.

I connected with this book because I liked the idea of having a small little creature chilling on my neck. I loved it a lot and frankly I believe that I read the entire series in a month.  This book is super engaging and it is an amazing book for readers of all ages.

Matilda

By Roald Dahl

232 pages

Matilda is about a special girl who has very mean parents. Matilda can move stuff with her eyes. The book takes place at Matilda’s school and in her town.

The story is about a girl named Matilda. When Matilda was four, she started to read some  magazines in her house while her parents were at work. Once Matilda finished all the magazines in her house, Matilda would wait until her parents would leave and then walk to the library everyday. Matilda dreamed of going to school but her parents wouldn't let her. When Matilda was six she went to school. On Matilda's first day of school she met her principal. Matilda’s principal was big and mean, but at recess Matilda met two friends named Lavender and Hortensiea. The story continues with Matilda’s on going adventures, at school and at her home.

Blended

Blended: a story filled with excitement.  This book is about a girl who had a white mom and a black dad who fought a lot. 11 year old Izzy the main character lives in Cincinnati Metropolitan near New York. Izzy goes through a lot of struggles such as her parents going through a divorce, troubles at school (racial motivated hate crime) and she got shot by a police woman because of her skin colour.  Izzy is a very good pianist and loves her friends. She is always on her Casio (her small little piano she got for her birthday).

My connection to this book is that my friend's parents are divorced and whilst reading this book I kept thinking about my friend’s family who have a really complicated life because of her parent’s divorce. I found this book to be very engaging and it also gives you some knowledge about racism and how black lives matter. I would definitely recommend this book to whoever likes domestic fiction or drama.

Otherwise Known as Sheila the Great

By Judy Bloom

138 pages

All Sheila wanted was to go Disneyland for the summer, but lately nothing seems to be going her way. Especially the fact that there’s a dog there which she has a deep fear of. Sheila’s day to day personality can be a bit of a handful, she’s a rather bold person with little hiccups when it comes to being honest. While she’s in Tarrytown the bumps in the road continue. She struggles with sister problems, dog problems, and worst of all swimming problems. Although when she meets Mouse, her problems seem to ease up. Mouse, Sheila and a few other friends have fun adventures through town.

A connection I made is that sometimes I tend to judge a book by its cover too, like when i go to a new place and don’t quite realize how great it truly is. This book is a fairly relatable one which makes it fun to read. It’s a quicker read with a rather light storyline. This story has elements of a coming of age tale.

Edward is struggling to find Abilene. Again, he keeps going to different owners. My connection is to the world. Everyone has experienced losing something and maybe some people find it. This adventure mystery book is worth reading because it is an adventure where something is always happening. I found it easy to read and I loved the illustrations.

A Tale Of Magic

By Chris Colfer

481 Pages

Brystal Evergreen, a happy perky girl, lives at her house with her Mother, Father, and two brothers. But life isn’t steering her the way she wants it to. Brystal loves to read, but there's only one problem. In the town of Chariot Hills, reading is illegal. The Justices of Chaiot Hills In the book, Brystal meets one of my favourite characters, Madame Weatherberry!

This book is a fantasy, and shows how characters deal with problems, much like in real life! In book 1 and 2, Brystal struggles with many problems, but in time she meets fun new characters to help her cope with it all. Bystal stumbles upon opportunite, Well sitting outside of the Chariot Hills town library  Mr. Woolser, ( the librarian ) puts up a sign. Brystal forms a plan, a very risky plan indeed.

A connection I made with this story is, in the book Girls and Women are underestimated. There supposed to be ( Well, forced to be ) a mother, and a wife. If you're like me, you’ll know that us girls are worth much more than that! Much like real life, women are expected to be a mother and a wife in some countries. Some people think that women aren’t “fit” to do jobs like Engineering, police, Fire fighters, but they are!

By: Katherine Applegate

Samar moved into the little blue house next to Red's old and knowledgeable trunk.  Red is a kind, observant red oak tree, Bongo is an outgoing, clever crow and Samar is a shy, quiet introvert. Red is planted right next to the small green and blue houses.  Samar’s family is from a different country and has a different culture. Her family often gets bullied about it.  All Samar wants is a friend and Red knows it.  As the story unfolds, Red, Samar and the crow Bongo face the threat of Rebecca cutting Red down.  Rebecca owns the property which Red is planted on. Can Samar and her animal friends save Red?

A connection that I made to this book was that Red is very determined to help Samar, kind of like Sophie in “Keeper of the Lost Cities”. I recommend this book for readers who like heartwarming stories.  This book takes you to the other side of life, which of course is nature.  It shows you what it feels like to be a tree. Wishtree is one of my absolute favourite books.

Spirit Animals Book 1: Wild Born
Brandon Mull
202 pages

Conor, Abeke, Meilin and Rollan live on opposite sides of Erdas, and know nothing about each other. But when they each summon animals that sacrificed their lives in a war, they must travel vast distances to come together to save Erdas, the world they live in. As well as the animals coming back from the past, the evil entity that started the first war has returned, and with him, revenge. Known as the Devourer, he will destroy anything blocking his path to power. But Conor, Abeke, Meilin and Rollan are stuck in his way. When one of the four kids ends up fighting for the wrong side, sacrifices must be made in order to make things right. Will these children make it through ferocious battles, fights with rabid dogs, and a deadly encounter with a giant ram to save Erdas alongside their animals?

This book is packed with fast-paced action and adventure. I loved how the characters interacted with each other and how every detail was described well but didn’t take up much space, so the book wasn’t a big slog to read. The characters (as animals) act like they would if they actually were in the wild. This book is right down your alley if you're a fan of books like “Wings of Fire”  and “Lord of the Rings”.

Firefly Hollow

By: Alison McGhee

291 pages

Hi there! This is a book report about the book called Firefly Hollow by Alison McGhee. There are 291 pages and there are some quite realistic photographs. There are three main characters: Firefly, Cricket and Vole.  In this book, Firefly is the one that talks the most.  Also, the narrator talks a lot. The Firefly Nation is taught to be very afraid of giants, otherwise known as humans.  The Cricket Nation is taught the same.  Firefly and Cricket haven’t met yet, but they both are so fascinated by how humans do things.  Firefly’s dream is to fly to the moon.  Cricket’s dream is to be the cricket version of Yogi Berra, the famous baseball player. Vole lives on a ship and is very kind to Cricket and Firefly.  He lost his grandfather to the ocean.  Vole had to teach himself to be a river vole.

This book is about how Cricket and Firefly go on a journey together, from touching giants to sailing out to the sea.  This book takes place in Peter’s home and Firefly Hollow, Cricket’s classroom and Vole’s boat. I connect this book to the world because lots of people have dreams and they need to fulfill them.

I really liked this book because of Firefly.  She had such a personality.  I hope that you read this book  if you do, I hope you like it!

The Magician's Nephew

C.S Lewis

202

When a little boy, Digory meets his new neighbour, Polly they become good  friends and soon they discover a tunnel underneath their houses.  They quickly realize that that tunnel led to something more magical than you could imagine.  The magic ring begins the excitement and adventure that sends them swirling into a whole new world!  When Polly and Digory come out of a pool they decide to try one more time and find themselves nothing but wet.  When they finally find out how to use their rings it brings them into another world called Charn.  In Charn, Polly and Digory find a family of frozen royalty and they awaken a queen and accidentally bring her out of Charn.  Then they realize she is evil! Soon they try jumping in another pool while touching their rings and it brings them into a world called Narnia.  In Narnia they go on many adventures and even discover new species.  On their last adventure they end up picking a silver apple that may cure some of their troubles.

This story is set mostly in Narnia but some of it is also in London.  The Magician's nephew is from the Victorian era.  The main character is Digory and he is very adventurous and switches from risk taking and not risk taking a lot.  Digory is struggling against the evil witch throughout the whole book except for the very beginning.

I think the book is definitely worth reading because it is very interesting and you always are wondering what is going to happen next.  This adventure fairytale even teaches you new things that you may have not known before you read this book like some old language and probably new words that you didn't know before and maybe a bit about what London was like back then.

I Survived the San Francisco Earthquake, 1906

Lauren Tarshis

88 pages

In San Francisco, 1906, a devastating earthquake struck. Leo is the main character in this short story who starts his day off by getting robbed by an ex-convict. The young newspaper boy thought his day could not get worse until the earth literally started shaking beneath him.  Leo struggles to survive the natural disaster while trying to get the family heirloom back from Fletch, the brutal thief. Luckily, Leo meets some friends along the way and has allies that help him face the many obstacles.  Leo is determined to get his precious gold nugget back because it was handed down to him from his grandfather who he never got to meet. Leo believes that he inherited his courage and strength from his grandfather and these are the attributes that helped him survive that terrible day in 1906.

This story makes me think about the connection I have with my grandfather who passed away before I was born. I know I have some of his strength and courage. My dad says I have his sense of humor.  Though this story is a very sad read with so much loss of life, there are some triumphs too. I am reminded how lucky I am to just be alive.  You may find that you learn a survival trick or two if you choose to read this book and be assured that you will be grateful to be alive, too!

War Horse

By Michael Morpurgo

180 pages

Joey is an average horse with an unnatural amount of bad luck. The setting of the story is a bloody battlefield. This story takes place in the late 1900s. The genre of this book is adventure and stars Joey the horse. Joey struggles through the rough war awaiting his owner's help. Unlucky enough, Joey finds himself sent to war by his grouchy owner. He pulls a trailer of gunpowder with a strong horse named Topthorn. When a bomb hits the trailer taking Topthorn with it, Joey runs through disastrous war fields. After days on end of wandering, Joey makes his way to a German trench where he finds safety at last.

To me this book makes a connection to the world and to the many wars in the past. as well, I connect with it through some of the minor fights with my sister. This book is totally worth reading because it has non stop action and is constantly going with mixed feelings. It has suspense at the right times but can be really enjoyable. For me this book has the perfect amount of negative and positive energy.

I Survived: Hurricane Katrina 2005
Lauren Tarshis
Illustrator: Scott Dawson
95 pages

A boy named Barry is a preteen, like me. His story takes place in New Orleans in 2005. After Hurricane Katrina hits, he is in a flooded house with his family and they have to go to the attic. Barry falls off the roof and is swept away. He is scared and brave. Scared because he lost his family during the hurricane, and he is brave because he waited for help, calmly, with his dog that he managed to save. He was struggling against the wind and the current and he was all alone. Barry and his family survive the hurricane, but, after losing his family and his home, he is rescued by a person named Nell who had a boat. The hurricane almost destroyed New Orleans completely - the rain felt like blades against Barry’s face. While Barry was alone, he tried his hardest to survive and had to live off scraps. After Barry and his dog are rescued, Barry reunites with his mother, father, and sister.

This story was based on true events. The book was quite sad. I liked it but I wish it had more detailed descriptions of the action. That would have made it more exciting to read.

James and the Giant Peach
By Roald Dahl
155 pages

This is a fantasy-adventure story about a young boy. James Henry Trotter is a kind and smart little boy. When he is only five years old, poor James becomes an orphan and is sent to live with his two aunts on top of a high hill in the south of England. Aunt Sponge is short and round, and Aunt Spiker is tall and skinny and both of them are awful. The aunts are very cruel to James and things do not look good for him, until something magical happens to change everything. One day a giant peach grows, it is so big that James can actually go right in. Inside the giant peach, James meets a whole group of friendly creatures who become his friends. When the peach rolls down the hill with James and his new friends inside, they begin the adventure of a lifetime.     James and the Giant Peach is a fun fantasy-adventure story with friendly creatures to connect with. I felt a connection to the earthworm who tends to focus on negative things and thinks it makes him happier. Luckily for me, I can see that thinking about negative things does not actually make me happy, it makes me more grumpy. Each of the characters in this has traits that are fun to read about and can also be good examples to learn from.

Halidays AI copy “Anorak” is the antagonist in the story. The plot is complicated, but starts when Wade finds a headset that fully allows the player to feel completely immersed in the game. The tech is deadly though because you can die after 12 hours of usage. A new struggle appears when Anorak locks everyone in the Oasis. Then the main characters go on a quest to find seven mystical shards to give to Anorak to unlock everyone from the oasis.

Reading the story made me think it would make an awesome movie. I think this sci-fi book is worth reading because it has action, adventure and romance. This book is also a real page turner.

The Voyage of the Dawn Treader is the fifth novel of the Narnia series. The main characters are Edmund, Lucy, their cousin Eustace, and Prince Caspian. The story takes place after the novel Prince Caspian and after Peter and Susan (Edmund and Lucy’s older siblings) are too old to return to Narnia. The majority of the story takes place on the ocean as they sail throughout the Eastern Islands until they reach The Last Wave towards Aslan’s country and the End of the World. In the book, Edmund, Lucy, and Eustace are transported into another world when a painting of a sailing ship on the ocean overflows into their house.  They are rescued from drowning by King Caspian and go on an adventure on the open ocean. They soon discover an evil green mist that is threatening Narnia. Their adventure leads them to dragons, the Lords of Telmar, and a talking mouse named Reepicheep. Their mission is to defeat the dragon and find the Seven Swords in order to save Narnia. The protagonist in The Voyage of The Dawn Treader is Eustace. At the beginning of the novel he is an obnoxious and unpleasant person.  He is selfish and has no imagination. He is not liked by Lucy or Edmund. But, throughout the story, Eustace goes through many hardships and becomes a kind and thoughtful boy.  Eustace does not have an antagonist. He mostly struggles against himself. When he is turned into a dragon, he has to deal with many things inside himself.

The connection I choose is the connection to myself. The Voyage of the Dawn Treader is about going on an adventure and trying to deal with your fears and other negative things that come into your life.  Everyone has problems in their life. We have to be strong and not let struggles stop you from living life. The other connection I have to the story is that I think I have a great imagination. They go on a long adventure and experience new things, and I often do that in my mind. I think this book is definitely worth reading because it has great adventure and suspense. I also thought that there were many parts of the story that were funny. I really liked Reepicheep, the talking mouse. He was strong and very brave.

The story takes place in the suburbs of  New York during the Springtime. Gladys Gatsby, the main character, is a very intelligent 11-year old girl with a huge imagination and a love for cooking.  She started cooking at the age of  7 and has become a food critic, but does not feel supported by her parents.  After Gladys accidentally starts a fire while cooking, her parents ban her from the kitchen and take away her allowance.  She needs to find a way to pay them back. The setting of the story moves to New York City.  Gladys is accidentally contacted to write a restaurant review for a major newspaper, but must hide her identity because she is just a child.

This book is definitely worth reading if you enjoy cooking.  I found the book to be inspiring because it showed me that if you put your mind to something anything is possible.  I also enjoyed the different and interesting recipes.  I would highly recommend this book if you like fantasy.

The main character, Sara Blum, is hiding from the Nazis in a barn, in France during ww2 she is a spoiled girl but she does end up having character development. Sara is struggling against the Nazis, but her saviour named Julain is a kind boy who developed polio at a young age. Julain teaches her what she is missing in school, plays cards with her and they read together.

I think this book is worth reading because it's good to learn about history and the bad things of the past so we can avoid repeating history. Also there is a lot of character development which I, and many others, find very engaging and fun to read. The genre of this story is history.

The Heroes of Olympus: The House of Hades

Rick Riordan

383p

This fantastic adventure begins when a group of demigods prevail on a quest to close the Doors of Death. Unexpectedly, Percy Jackson and his friend Annabeth Chase fall into the eternal abyss of Tartarus. Despite that unexpected occurrence, they are still on their journey to save the world. On their impossible journey they meet some inhospitable foes and climb their way up to the higher ground of victory. In this compelling adventure Percy Jackson shows that he will never give up his friends.

This epic fantasy will make your jaw drop. A connection I made with this book is that mortal people that meet the demigods cannot tell what is happening to them. It's kind of like real life. With the amount of depth and thought written into this book is joyable to read. A big reason why I like this book is because it has the perfect amount of mythology and adventure scripted into it.

Freckle Juice

By Judy Bloom

47 pgs.

Andrew Marcus, the main character is goofy, gullible and desperate to have freckles like Nicky Lane.  The other main character is Sharon, who is annoying and who says she can sell Andrew a recipe for freckle juice.  The story takes place in school and at Andrew’s house.  Andrew is struggling against drinking the freckle juice and against Sharon, who is mean.

My connection to this story is to the book called The Twits, because the people at that house are crazy, just like Sharon, but maybe a little bit more crazy.  I think this book is worth reading because the book is fun and funny.  The genre of this book is a short comic novel. I like this book because it is very funny.

Ivan, a mighty silverback and Ruby, a shy kind elephant both dream of one day being back in the wild after they were captured to perform. This story takes place at the Exit Eight Top Mall and Video Arcade. The main character Ivan is kind, he keeps his promises, he enjoys listening to jokes and stories. He doesn't  remember much about his life in the wild. Ivan is struggling against Mack the owner of the Exit Eight Big Top Mall and Video Arcade. The story is about a gorilla who tries his best to help and raise Ruby a young elephant. Julia a caring kid loves art and so does Ivan, Julia always gives Ivan paint and other art supplies when she comes. Ivan dreams of a better life and a better home, with help of his animal and human friends Ivan hopes his dream will come true.

The book made me think of other places in the world where poor animals do get treated badly to perform. I think this book is worth reading because you could tell the amount of details and thought the author put into the characters. It is also a great plot and idea for the story, as you read you get to know the characters and their personalities. The genre of this story is children's literature but I would recommend this book to people who loves animals and stories  there point of view i think you will love this book.

Firefly Hollow
By: Alison McGee
291 pages

There are two main characters in this book. Firefly is a determined and brave fly. Cricket is a thoughtful and kind bug. The story takes place in Firefly Hollow, when the moon rises in the sky. Cricket and Firefly don't fit into what is taught to itsy-bitsy creatures of the Hollow. But Firefly doesn't only want to learn how to fly, she wants to do something much more extraordinary, something that will prove she can do it. On the other hand, Cricket is trying to make his own biggest dream come true. He doesn't only want to sing baseball songs, he wants to star in a game. With the help of Peter, a thoughtful yet charming young boy, they will create something astounding.

I know what it’s like to be Peter because I was home-schooled most of my life, playing in the woods. This book is worth reading because it is a calming story and full of poetic language. If you are eager to read an enchanting yet suspenseful tale, this adventurous thriller is right for you.

This book is about a dragonet named Tsunami. She’s really nice and she and her friends were trying to find her parents. They traveled under the ocean to find Tsunami’s mother, Queen Coral. First, they went to Queen Coral’s summer palace. On the way they’re going to Queen Coral’s palace, they met a dragonet named Riptide. They made friends with Riptide. But somebody's been killing the queen’s daughters for years. Tsunami wanted to find out who was killing the Queen’s daughters. There used to be two eggs in the Royal Hatchery. One of the eggs was destroyed by the mystery dragonet. The poor little dragonet inside died, but the other one was saved by Tsunami. When Dad needs to get milk for his children's breakfast cereal (and for his tea) he gets abducted by aliens! He goes on a breathtaking journey in a Stegosaurus's  Floaty-Ball-Person-Carrier (a hot air balloon), and goes on a long journey coming across weird tribe members, nice dinosaurs, and bizarre vampires on his long journey. They have to unravel time itself to get back home for breakfast!

My sister used to always tell me fake stories like the one the dad told. This book will make you laugh so hard and you won't be able to stop reading! This book is perfect for readers from 6 to 11 and a great read aloud. I would 100% recommend it if you like comedy and adventure. If you read this I hope you like it and share it too.

The Trials of Apollo: The Tyrant’s Tomb
By: Rick Riordan
423 pages

When the Greek god Apollo gets sent to earth and gets changed into a mortal called Lester by his father Zeus, he meets Meg, a demigod, daughter of Demeter and they become friends. Apollo is funny, not the bravest, but loyal to his friends. This book is about Lester (Apollo), who while suffering from a scratch from a ghoul, tries to protect Camp Jupiter from an evil king with his army of zombie-like creatures, and from two evil emperors. Camp Jupiter is a training camp for demigods.  On April 8th, the day of the blood moon and also Apollo’s new birthday, his wound will turn him into one of the undead. He sets out on a quest with Meg to find a god, an enemy from long ago, and tries to call out to the goddess Artemis, his sister.

This book reminds me of the Percy Jackson series, also by Rick Riordan, because Percy and his friend Anabeth go on lots of adventures like Apollo and Meg. This book is full of adventure, fun, and knowledge about Greek gods. I would recommend this book if you liked other Rick Riordan books or if you like a funny but action-packed story.

It's fascinating how Rupert can get lucky multiple times, and along the way he makes lots of friends. He even goes to the future and discovers some interesting information. His adventures are endlessly fun.

A connection I made was: I know a lot of  people are poor but I never experienced it myself, I know how hard it is to survive for some people. What waits in sun-drown place only Starclan knows.

Fablehaven 3:
The Grip of the Shadow Plague
Brandon Mull
473 pages

Kendra, the shy and cautious older sister to Seth, and her brother, a courageous mischief maker, have to save Fablehaven. The book mainly takes place on the secret magical preserve that they are saving, Fablehaven, which is also their grandparents property. This time, the siblings have to face something never seen before, a plague that turns light creatures to raging dark creatures. This plague is discovered when Seth is trading batteries for gold with the satyrs. (Grampa Larsen, the caretaker of Fablehaven and the sibling's grandparent, doesn’t allow electronics but the satyrs snuck a portable TV.) As light meets dark and the sanctuaries fail, they make a last stand in perhaps the last hour of light.

I found that I knew many of the mythical creatures such as satyrs and centaurs from Greek myth and fairies from a fairy tale. I also found that the length of the book is perfect for fast readers. It is so action packed that slow readers don’t lose interest. But if you’re a squeamish reader you shouldn’t read it because it contains violent scenes. I’m not so squeamish and thought it was a really nice book.

Home Team
By: Eric Walters, Jerome Williams and Johnnie Williams III
171 Pages

Home Team tells the story of a grade six boy named Nick who is organizing his classmates to write letters to the Toronto Raptors, a professional basketball team. The letters explain that the students are big basketball fans, and their school would love for the Raptors to come visit.  Nick is a kind, motivated, and respectful student. His teacher has an assignment  where they have to write a letter to a business and make a request. Nick and his friends do a good job trying to get the Raptors to come to their school. They sent letters, emails, a box of art, a song called Raptor mania, and they even made a big sign saying Go Raptors Go with sod!  Nick received a letter from the Raptors saying that we are sorry but we can’t come but thank you for supporting our team. The Raptors are trying to be kind by sending exciting stuff because they can’t come.

The connections I made to this story are that I moved from Toronto and I like basketball. I like that the book was placed in Toronto, and hearing a familiar team name. Reading the book reminded me of going to the Air Canada Center when I was little. People who love sports would probably like  this book. I think that the book is worth reading because it is funny and interesting. There is some hilarious arguing about what to do next to get the Raptors to come to their school. Nick and his friends won’t give up trying to get the Raptors to come to their school!

Because of Winn-Dixie
Kate DiCamillo
182 pages
My book review is on the book titled, Because of Winn-Dixie by Kate Dicamillo. The main character is a ten year old girl name India Opal who lives in Naomi, Florida, a Baptist Church town. India Opal finds a lost dog running in a grocery store and when the angry manager finds the dog, he asks whose dog it is. Opal rescues the dog by saying it is hers and giving him the made-up name of Winn-Dixie.

The dog follows her home and she hides him in the family trailer. When her dad finds out about the dog, at first he is angry and does not want to let Opal keep Winn-Dixie. But when her dad sees how much she needs a dog like Winn-Dixie, he lets her keep it.
I had a connection to this book because just like Winn-Dixie, my dog gets dirty. He also has lots of energy and sometimes causes trouble. But he is nice like Winn-Dixie and he can be a calm and gentle friend.
This is a fictional story about friendship and the lost of India Opals’ mom. I recommend this book highly because it is a non-violent, feel-good  story that has interesting characters that are believable.

Diary of a Wimpy Kid:
The Third Wheel
217 pages

The main characters are Greg Heffley, Holly Hills and Rowley Jefferson. Greg is a very good boy because he listens to his parents and his teachers. He is creative, funny and a good writer. Greg loves to play video games especially Twisted Wizard. Holly is a popular girl who is very pretty. She is very good at drawing and she really likes Greg because he is kind and smart. Rowley is kind and funny and goes to the same school as Greg and Holly. He is short and also likes to play video games with Greg.

The book is about three friends who want to go to their school’s Valentine’s Dance. Who will Holly go to the Valentine’s Dance with? Greg or Rowley?

My connection to this book was when my friend Ania and I wanted to play on the monkey bars and my other friend Emi wanted to do gymnastics on the field. It’s sometimes hard for all three friends to go somewhere together.

The book is worth reading because you really want to know who Holly goes to the dance with. It kept me wanting to read more and more of the book.

I would give this book a rating of five stars. It’s one of the best books I’ve read.

How To Train Your Dragon
By: Cressida Cowell

214 pages

This story takes place on the Little Isle Of Berk where the main character grows up. Hiccup Horrendous Haddock the III is a very small boy who is often bullied by his cousin Snotlout. He may be small but he is surprisingly brave. The antagonist of this story is a dragon named The Green Death. He is a type of dragon called a Seadragonus-Giganticus-Maximus of the open ocean. My favorite character is Hiccup because he may not look like a hero but he is tactical and makes crazy, but useful, plans in hard situations.

This is a story of friendship and courage. Hiccup has to climb a cliff with a group of overly-excited boys to catch baby dragons. But the dragons wake up and they have to escape. He has to pass a test to see if he is a proper Viking hero.

I would suggest this book to non-squeamish people because of a little bit of gory detail. This book is a great book for ages 9 and up. It has a few more advanced words but overall it is a great read.

The Spiderwick Chronicles
By Tony Diterlizzi
and Holly Black
107 pages

The Spiderwick Chronicles are about an average family. But, Mallory, Jared, and Simon have one difference; their Dad has abandoned them and left them to live with their Mom in their mysterious Great Aunt’s old house. When strange things started happening in the house, the children started to wonder if their Great Aunt left anything peculiar.
The children discover a secret passageway up the old house’s kitchen  dumbwaiter to the attic. There Jared finds out that their Great Great Uncle was a mysterious man who had many secrets. The children, tired of the strange happenings, set a trap to discover who is playing pranks on them in the house.  They meet the gnome named Thumbtack and his mice Jeffery and Lemondrop.

I enjoyed the story’s mysteries and was interested to find out who was causing all the trouble for the children.  The ending of the book solves a few questions but makes you want to immediately read the next book of the children’s adventures.  Since I can’t wait to read the next book, I give this story

Tales of a Fourth Grade Nothing
By: Judy Blume
Page count: 120
Peter Hatcher is your normal nine year old boy in fourth grade in New york. Peter lives in a apartment on sixty-third avenue on the upper west of central park. Peter’s dad is in the TV commercials business and his mum is a kind but overprotective mum. But Peter’s least favourite person in his family is his little brother Farley, but everybody calls him “Fudge”. Fudge is always getting Peter in trouble.

The book is about Peter's relationship with his annoying little brother Fudge. It has a bunch of little stories that make up the book. The stories always have Fudge being naughty. For example Peter, his mum and Fudge went to the dentist but Fudge would not open his mouth so they had to call Peter in to make Fudge open his mouth.

One connection I made with this book is I think I might have been an annoying brother to my big brother when I was little but I don’t think I was as naughty as Fudge. This is a good funny book for kids. If you want a book that will make you laugh you would enjoy this book and other books by Judy Blume.

Back in BC, there was a boy named Nic Calva (Nicolas Calva). He lived as a slave from the mines in rome. His enemy Radulf was part of the roman council. Radulf forced Nic into a cave that was said to have “Caesers” gold. There was a griffin that protected the cave and tried to kill Nic. But Nic found a valuable called a bulla. The bulla made him able to control the griffin. So they flew out. Since Nic left the mines most people thought of him of a criminal but not every one. Some of those people who liked Nic were also part of the council but they don’t have as much power as radulf. A while after he escaped, he encountered a girl named Aurelia. Nic hated Aurelia but they built a relationship. Aurelia and some of the people in the council, helped Nic learn his magic. And Nic must defeat some of those people like Radulf who want to kill him.

Late at night Coraline discovers the door wide open and she crawls through. As she gets to the end she sees her hallway and her flat. But she notices a amazing smell coming from the kitchen. In the kitchen is the “other mother”. The other mother looks alot like Coraline's mom except she is thinner, taller, paler and has button eyes! She also has a other father who is very creative and artsy. The other parents treat Coraline like royalty! And when coraline is told she can stay forever, she is delighted! But there's a catch, she has to get buttons sewn to her eyes! After hearing this, Coraline grows an attitude and the other mother does not appreciate that. She turns into a tall, scary doll like like figure and tries to keep Coraline forever. When Coraline finally escapes, her parents are nowhere to be found! She eventually sees her parents in the mirror. Her mom wrote “help us” in the fog of the mirror. Goosebumps #7: Night of the Living Dummy

RL Stine
134 pages

Kris and Lindy are 12 year old twin sisters. They seem to have trouble getting along.  Lindy finds an old ventriloquist dummy in a dumpster at a construction site near their house.  She names him Slappy. Lindy comes up with a joke routine with Slappy. She gets all the attention.  Kris becomes jealous. She wants a dummy too, because her sister is getting all the attention. He starts to cause major problems for Kris and Lindy at home and at school. Can they stop him? And what's happening to Slappy?

The genre of this book is horror. This is a  horror story because it's creepy that ventriloquist dummies are coming to life and doing bad things.  My two favorite characters are Mr. Wood and Slappy. I like Slappy and Mr. Wood because they are evil and sometimes kind of funny.  They both are kind of cute. My connection is that I was attracted to this story because I like scary things. I enjoy other scary things too, like haunted houses and roller coasters.

If you're a fan of scary books you would probably like Goosebumps Night of the Living Dummy #7.  I enjoyed this book and I think it's worth reading again.

Alex Rider: Stormbreaker

Alex Rider is a fast-paced adventure novel. Author  Anthony Horrowitz takes the reader on an exciting journey to save the world. At 238 pages the book keeps you on the edge of your seat and always ready for more.

The protagonist is Alex Rider, a daring teenager with blonde hair and a strong build. Alex is brave, smart, and very curious. This 14 year old orphan finds himself deep in an undercover world of spies and enemies as he fights for the safety of humanity.

The antagonist is an extremely short man named Harod Sayle. With a temper as short as his height, Mr. Sayle is as evil and cunning as they come. This character provides the book’s mysterious plot.
The novel is set in modern day England. We start at Alex’s home in London. As the story unfolds, we follow Alex to Cornwall and then back to London. This action adventure provides many opportunities for characters to use all kinds of advanced technology and gadgets.

Stormbreaker is the story of a teenager who goes searching for answers about the death of his uncle. He quickly gets mixed up in an undercover world of spies and bad guys. Before long, Alex finds himself recruited and quickly thrown into the hard work of spy training. He might be young and inexperienced, but Alex’s determination gives him the courage he needs to find the answers he seeks.

When reading this book, I made a connection to another book called Young Bond: Silverfin. Silverfin is a novel about James Bond as a child and a spy. Alex Rider and James Bond are both inconvenienced by their age when they become spies. Both of these characters manage to beat the odds and come out on top.

It was thrilling and intense. The first thing I did after finishing this novel was to grab the next one in the series and start reading right away!

I give this book a 5 star rating.

Goosebumps: Creature Teacher
By R.L. Stine

In 1730 there was a school named ”Caring Academy”. In Miss Hammett’s class there was a grade five kid named Paul. But Miss Hammett didn't like him. It wasn't his fault. He is nice, funny, and sweet and tried to get on Miss Hammett’s good side. Because ever since  grade five he has always been friends with his teachers up until now. But he made a mistake and tripped Miss Hammett by accident. Which took Miss Hammett back to her old, creepy, mean, nasty, and terrifying self. A person I suggest to pay attention to is Paul because he has so much curiosity and is determined to figure  out Miss.Hammett's Deep dark secret and that's why Paulis my favourite character!
This was a very fun book to read but it was a little creepy so if you are attracted to creepy and terrifying stories then this is the book for you. If Scary stories are not your favourite thing to read then this book may not be the right one for you!

The Last Kids On Earth and The Zombie Parade
Max Brallier & Douglas Holgate
291 Pages
Jack Sullivan is a brave, humorous, Seventh-grade post-apocalyptic action hero. With his buddies, June Del Toro, Quint, and Dirk, he is on a mission to restore Earth with his blade, The Louisville Slicer.
But the terrain they have to work with is tough, it’s rough and rugged with monsters and zombies on the loose. One of the monsters, Thrull, the nice monster was actually hiding his evil. Later in the book Thrull, befriended Jack and his friends to finish his bestiary on monsters. But it turns out the bestiary is actually a key to open the portal to let Reźźóch the Ancient Destructor of Worlds onto Earth to destroy and eat all of the human life and plant life on it. Jack Sullivan is my favourite character in the story because he’s funny and both of our “relaxation” time is video games or TV. I am strongly connected to the character Jack Sullivan because both he’s a regular kid doing extraordinary things and I want to be the same.
Personally, I give this book a five-star rating.

The Sisters 8 Series - Petal’s Problem (Book 6)

By Lauren Baratz-Logsted

144 Pages

This book is about Petal who is 1 of 8 octuplets and her parents have gone missing.  Her Aunt Martha is getting married in France.  They get fake passports for their trip.  They then fly to Europe where the adventure begins with their trusty friend Pete.  At the wedding, they encountered their arch nemesis, Crazy Serena.

I think this novel would help other children in learning about becoming independent by thinking for themselves because the children’s parents (in the story) went missing in the book series.  I also recommend this novel to children that enjoy reading the genre of adventure.  I would rate this book a 10/10 because it is very well written and I love reading books with excitement.
