Week 7 - Oct 19 - 23

Hey there, folks. Our school year is moving right along: believe it or not we'll hit the halfway point of Term 1 this week. Remember: Friday is a Pro-D day. Here's the plan for this short week:

Math: I was super impressed at how you did on the Subtraction Strategies quizzy last week. Well done. So you know, we will revisit adding and subtracting strategies later in our year when we explore decimal values. But for now, let's move on to multiplication. We'll start with a review of the basic facts to 10 x 10. At the same time we will review some of the vocabulary and strategies that you've learned in the past.

Writing: The Halloween story is well underway. This week, do the best you can to write your first draft. I encourage you to continue to look back at the planning work you have already done. One of the things I will emphasize this week is that writing is a constant process. Writing your first draft is only half of the job. Refining your ideas, building stronger and more interesting sentences, and adding rich details are great strategies to turn your story from drab into delightful. Double-check the criteria (see the Halloween Story page here on the blog), and have a peer and an adult read your tale before you decide your story is complete. Your completed stories are due October 30th.

L.A.: On Monday this week I will have you all read a short passage to me. This will give me an idea of your oral reading fluency. From there I will be better able to help you with your reading skills. Soon, you'll be working with a partner and reading together for fluency and for comprehension. More to come about this later. Refugee continues this week.

Science: We will undertake a "stations lab" about the excretory system this week. Work efficiently to complete your "lab" page during class time, please.

Social Studies: The municipal election is complete. Let's have a quick look at the results before turning our attention on this week's provincial election.

Have a great week!
